Freedom Wheels is a community transport service designed to fill a gap in public transport provision. Volunteers provide a door to door service using their own cars to help those who are unable to access public transport. Backed by North Yorkshire County Council's Community Transport service, it is managed by Skipton & Craven Action for Disability - a local charity with 35 years' experience in providing community based transport to Skipton and Craven.
Getting around rural Craven can be incredibly difficult, even without mobility problems. A lack of public transport makes it almost impossible to get to medical appointments, visit other people in hospital or do such simple things as get out to the hairdressers or the shops and can make vulnerable people completely isolated. Freedom Wheels connects volunteer drivers with passengers needing transport.
